Ella is a small mountain town wrapped in tea estates, waterfalls and forest. Most of its famous sights sit within a few kilometres of each other — but the timing matters. Trains, sunrise and the midday heat all shape the best order to see them.

This private day tour plans it for you. You start with an easy sunrise climb, meet the morning train at Nine Arch Bridge, see how Ceylon tea is made, and finish at Ravana Falls. Your driver-guide handles the roads, the parking and the timing, so you can simply enjoy the views.

Your driver-guide meets you at your hotel before dawn. The day moves from the cool morning hills to the valley floor, with a long lunch break in town.

Walk up through the tea to the summit and watch the light spread over Ella Gap.

Make It a Train Day

Arrive by the Famous Hill-Country Train

The rail line from Kandy and Nanu Oya to Ella is one of the most beautiful train rides in the world. It climbs through tea estates, tunnels and cloud forest, with people hanging out of the open doors to take photos.

If you are coming from Kandy or Nuwara Eliya, you can ride the train to Ella while your driver brings the luggage by road. We then start the tour from Ella station — usually with an afternoon version of this day and the sunrise hike the next morning.
